Introduction to the Local Plan

The Central Bedfordshire Local Plan will set out a vision for how our area will develop in the future, up to 2035, and makes sure growth happens in a structured way.

The Local Plan will provide the overall approach to sustainable growth and some allocations for community facilities, infrastructure, housing, employment etc.

The community plans will focus on these needs at a more local level. They will consider how to plan for sustainable growth, local infrastructure (open spaces, education provision, transport links, health provision etc.) and new homes, recognising what is important to them and capturing their needs for facilities and infrastructure up to 2035.

What will happen?

Towns and parishes have been grouped into 15 community areas.

An event will be held in each area using interactive techniques to draw out relevant issues and information around sites for development, growth, facilities etc. Growth ‘themes’ (Local Character, Growth and Infrastructure, Transport, Jobs and Business, Environment, Homes) will be explored during this process.

The output from the events will be put together to produce a community plan for each area.
